Jon Powers has worked with artists including: Justin Timberlake, Matt Morris, Charlie Sexton, Flobots, Danielle Ate the Sandwich, Ron Miles, 3ology, Shannon Wexelberg, Taylor Mesple, Dave Preston, Dave & Tara Powers, Charlotte Sass, Rachel and the Kings and the Longmont Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed on Late Night with David Letterman, The Ellen Degeneres Show, and Lopez Tonight in addition to his appearance on the internationally broadcast performance of “Hallelujah” with Justin Timberlake, Matt Morris, Charlie Sexton and Dave Preston at the Hope For Haiti Now Telethon. The download of this performance reached #1 on the iTunes Singles Chart.
He began studying drums at age 6 and participated in both church and school bands. While attending Skyline High School he was awarded the Louis Armstrong Award and the John Philip Sousa Award and was selected to participate in the CU Honor Band and CSU Honor Jazz Band. He went on to attend the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music majoring in jazz studies and studied privately with Grammy-nominated artist Art Lande.
As a private instructor, Jon has taught drum lessons in Longmont, CO since 1992. He has developed a unique curriculum and his students have attended various state honor bands, the Blue Knights, Berklee College of Music and the University of North Texas as well as forming their own bands and playing with their school and church groups.
Currently Jon works as a session drummer, is a clinician in schools and churches, and offers private drum lessons in Longmont, CO for beginning to intermediate players of all ages. Email Jon to inquire about lessons and more.
